LIONS, & KOALAS, & da BEARS: FROM STATEN ISLAND TO CHICAGO AND BACK AGAIN It’s been quite a while since I’ve tried to be a virtuoso at storyblogging—I defected to Experimental Literature in 2008 and May not have returned yet—but I’ll try to tell you all about moving to Chicago for a few years and also a whole bunch of Staten Islanders got famous. I’m in Hylan Commons on Hylan Boulevard Right now. Here for Starbucks, perhaps just for idling in the parking lot while hitting this down, here always for its nearness to the beach and the seagulls overhead. Hylan Commons has undergone some store tenant turnover since it’s original occupancy when it was built in the mid-90s—built after the razing of a small movie theater. (Long itinerary of stories to share from in here—that’s what’s going into my book HYLAN—but let me get back to what I was about to write about: moving to Chicago in 2012.
